India, July 17 -- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken a major step towards enhancing the operation and maintenance (O&M) of national highway assets by appointing General Management Consultants (GMCs) for assets managed under the National Highways Infra Trust (NHIT).

NHIT, an Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) sponsored by NHAI, currently manages 2,653 km of national highways. In the first phase, the newly appointed consultants will oversee the O&M of 908 km of highway assets, with the objective of improving asset performance, operational efficiency, and adopting global best practices.
