India, March 19 -- Maharashtra has signed a reform-linked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0, marking its formal entry into the Centre's revamped rural drinking water framework approved by the Union Cabinet on March 10, 2026.
The agreement focuses on strengthening service delivery, accountability, and long-term sustainability of rural water supply systems. It introduces key reforms such as community-based monitoring through Jal Seva Aankalan, enhanced transparency via digital platforms, and structured handover of completed water schemes to local bodies for better ownership and maintenance.
