India, July 24 -- Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday launched the Bharat Taxi service in the state at Navi Mumbai International Airport, aiming to promote a cooperative, driver-owned mobility model.
Launched under the Centre's vision of 'Sahakar Se Samriddhi', the platform treats taxi drivers, or Sarathis, as owners and shareholders of the cooperative rather than just drivers, enabling them to share in the institution's profits.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol said the initiative marks a new chapter for Maharashtra's cooperative sector and is expected to generate employment and self-employment opportunities for youth and women.
