India, Sept. 18 -- Indian Railways has approved the doubling of the 10.86-km Chouk-Karjat railway section of Central Railway in Maharashtra at a cost of Rs 497 crore.
The project is part of umbrella works covering doubling, tripling, quadrupling, flyovers and bypasses aimed at increasing railway network capacity. The Chouk-Karjat stretch forms part of the Panvel-Chouk-Karjat route, an important corridor for passenger and freight movement.
The doubling will add capacity to the existing single-line section and is expected to facilitate five additional passenger trains in each direction per day after completion.
