India, May 19 -- India's peak power demand reached an all-time high of 257.37 GW on Monday, driven largely by rising use of cooling appliances such as air conditioners and desert coolers amid severe heat wave conditions.
According to data from the Ministry of Power, the latest peak demand surpassed the previous record of 256.11 GW recorded on April 25, 2026.
The ministry said the new peak demand level was recorded at 3:42 pm on Monday and was fully met without disruption, reflecting the power sector's ability to handle rising electricity consumption during extreme summer conditions.
