India, Feb. 4 -- The government on Tuesday signed an agreement to establish the Bharat Container Shipping Line (BCSL), a strategic initiative aimed at developing an integrated container shipping and logistics ecosystem across the country.

The move is aligned with the ?10,000-crore Container Manufacturing Assistance Scheme (CMAS) announced in the Union Budget 2026–27, which will be implemented over the next five years.

Through this scheme, the government plans to create a globally competitive container manufacturing base in India to support the fast-growing containerised cargo segment, which currently contributes nearly two-thirds of the total value of global trade.
