India, Feb. 1 -- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday announced an increase in the capital expenditure (capex) target to Rs 12.2 lakh crore for FY27, up from Rs 11.2 lakh crore allocated for the current fiscal year, as part of the government's continued push to strengthen infrastructure development.

Presenting the Union Budget 2026–27 in the Lok Sabha, she said the government will continue focusing on expanding infrastructure across Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities to support wider economic growth.

Additionally, the Centre has proposed setting up a risk guarantee fund for the infrastructure sector to improve financing access and facilitate smoother project execution.
