India, April 1 -- Reforms introduced under the Biological Diversity (Amendment) Act, 2023 have led to a sharp rise in intellectual property rights (IPR) applications linked to India's biological resources, according to the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA).
The increase reflects stronger alignment between biodiversity conservation, research, and industrial innovation. The amended law has clarified regulatory processes governing access to biological resources and associated traditional knowledge.
