WASHINGTON, Aug. 19 -- The United States (US) has imposed sanctions on International Criminal Court (ICC) President Tomoko Akane and another senior official. Washington said the officials supported investigations that exceeded the court's authority.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced sanctions against Akane and ICC Senior Trial Lawyer Abdoulaye Seye. He accused both officials of pursuing cases against officials from countries that did not accept ICC jurisdiction. Washington has repeatedly criticized the Hague-based court as politicized.
