Pakistan, Sept. 1 -- The UK has recorded its hottest summer in nearly 150 years after experiencing five heatwaves between May and August. The Met Office said the country recorded an average summer temperature of 16.5degC. This surpassed the previous record of 16.1degC set last year. The extreme heat also brought drought-like conditions, wildfires and travel disruptions across several areas.

The UK recorded temperatures of at least 30degC on 40 days this summer. This broke the previous record of 34 such days recorded during an earlier summer. The hottest day came on August 13, when temperatures reached 38.1degC at Kew Gardens. Despite cooler conditions towards the end of August, prolonged heat pushed the seasonal average higher.
