Pakistan, July 28 -- Two moderate earthquakes struck China's northwestern Qinghai province within just 18 minutes on Tuesday, prompting emergency teams to rush to the affected area. No casualties or major damage were immediately reported.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the first earthquake measured 5.7 magnitude and struck Xinghai County at 11:16am local time, followed by a 5.8 magnitude quake at 11:34am. Both occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres (6 miles).

The epicentre was located in a sparsely populated, high-altitude region about 244 kilometres (152 miles) from Xining, the provincial capital.
