Pakistan, Sept. 24 -- Pakistan is currently experiencing a season of protests. For the past several weeks, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has been staging demonstrations against the petroleum levy imposed on petroleum products. The government has held talks with the party, and I have also seen glimpses of some of these meetings. However, despite the JI's protests, petroleum prices have continued to rise. JI had launched its march towards Islamabad, but postponed the march at PM Shahbaz Sharif's request, pending a meeting with him. However, the party has made it clear that it will resume the march if the government fails to offer relief.
