Pakistan, April 23 -- A commission of inquiry in Tanzania has found that 518 people died in post-election violence following last year's disputed general election. The report marks the first official confirmation of the death toll linked to widespread protests. The findings relate to unrest that erupted after the October vote.
Commission chairman Mohamed Chande Othman said the deaths were classified as resulting from "unnatural causes." However, he did not assign responsibility for the killings. He recommended further investigations to determine accountability for the violence.
