Sri Lanka has attributed its suspension from the World Anti-Doping (WADA) to procedural delays in updating its sports legislation, the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping (SLADA) announced on Wednesday.

According to SLADA Director-General Shiromi Pilapitiya, necessary legislative amendments to align the country's laws with international anti-doping standards are already before parliament and are expected to be passed within the next few weeks.

She emphasized that the amended sports law would expand the list of prohibited substances for athletes, ensuring compliance with WADA's global requirements and facilitating Sri Lanka's reinstatement once approved.
