Pakistan, Sept. 8 -- New Delhi has managed to add controversy to an unrelated UN resolution called "Correct the Map", an African-led effort to correct the visual injustice of the Mercator projection, which magnifies Europe and North America while shrinking Africa. On Friday, 164 states backed the resolution. India voted for it. Its foreign ministry then insisted that any map encouraged by the UN must reproduce New Delhi's official depiction of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The General Assembly had endorsed a fairer way of representing landmasses, not India's borders. The episode exposes, once again, the reflex by which Delhi treats every international forum as a playground for unilateral claims.
