Pakistan, June 29 -- Coordinator to the Federal Tax Ombudsman Saif ur Rehman on Sunday called for prompt action and effective precautionary measures to minimize the risks of floods and landslides as forecasts indicate heavier-than-usual rainfall during the ongoing monsoon season.

In a statement issued here, he urged the authorities to activate effective early warning systems to alert vulnerable communities living near rivers, streams and hilly areas well in advance about potential threats. He also stressed the need for the immediate clearance of drainage channels, strengthening of embankments and deployment of emergency response teams in flood-prone regions to deal with any untoward situation.
