Pakistan, May 9 -- Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia is advancing in Ukraine and will always stand on the side of victory and truth. He made the remarks during a major Victory Day address on May 9 in Moscow. The speech took place at Red Square during ceremonies marking the 81st anniversary of the Soviet victory in World War II.

Putin congratulated Russian citizens and armed forces during the national celebrations. He described Victory Day as a sacred and most important national holiday for Russia. He said the nation will always honor the sacrifices of those who fought in what Russia calls the Great Patriotic War.
