Pakistan, Aug. 20 -- The Election Commission of Pakistan has agreed in principle to hold Punjab local government elections between December 15, 2026 and January 15, 2027. The proposed timeframe follows consultations with the Punjab government.

Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja chaired the ECP meeting in Islamabad on Thursday. The commission was informed that the delimitation process for Punjab had been completed.

The ECP stressed that elected local governments are a constitutional requirement under Article 140-A. It also noted that election laws require polls within 120 days after the expiry of local governments' terms.
