Pakistan, June 29 -- The Punjab government's e-taxi scheme has fallen short of its objectives after many beneficiaries reportedly used subsidised electric vehicles for personal travel instead of operating them as commercial taxis. Consequently, the Transport Department has launched inspections to identify misuse and ensure the vehicles are serving their intended public purpose.

According to official sources, many e-taxis provided under the programme are rarely seen operating on roads despite being distributed to promote eco-friendly transport and create employment opportunities.
