Pakistan, Sept. 30 -- The Punjab Assembly's Standing Committee on Human Rights and Minorities Affairs approved the Christian Marriage Bill 2026. The committee approved the proposed legislation unanimously during its meeting in Lahore.
Raheela Khadim Hussain chaired the committee meeting, where MPA Philbos Christopher presented the proposed bill. The legislation seeks to replace the Christian Marriage Act 1872 with updated provisions for Christian marriages.
The proposed law sets the minimum marriage age at 18 for members of the Christian community. Philbos Christopher said the existing law sets different minimum ages for Christian marriages. Under the current law, boys can marry at 16, while girls can marry at 13.
