Pakistan, Aug. 3 -- Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif digitally inaugurated Nestle Pakistan's state-of-the-art biomass steam plant in Sheikhupura, describing it as a major step towards environmental sustainability, the circular economy and renewable energy.

Built with an investment of approximately $4.5 million, the biomass steam plant will utilise around 72,000 tonnes of agricultural residue annually as fuel, offering an environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative to crop residue burning. Officials briefed the chief minister that the facility would generate 30 tonnes of steam per hour, resulting in annual fuel cost savings of approximately $2.15 million.
