Pakistan, Aug. 14 -- Princess Beatrice attended a service of remembrance for businessman Paddy McNally on Friday, appearing in place of her mother Sarah Ferguson, who has stayed largely away from public events.

The 38-year-old royal joined mourners at St James' Church in Sevenhampton near Swindon, where the memorial service for McNally began at 10:30am.

Her attendance carried particular significance because McNally shared a longstanding friendship with Sarah, with the pair having dated during the 1980s before she married Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

McNally died aged 88 in July after remaining an important figure in Sarah's life for decades, while his career included racing and senior involvement in Formula One.
