Pakistan, June 9 -- A powerful offshore earthquake struck near Cuba on Monday, sending tremors across parts of Cuba, Mexico, and Florida in what officials say is one of the strongest seismic events in the region in nearly 150 years.

The United States Geological Survey recorded the quake at a magnitude of 6.1, occurring at a shallow depth of around 26 kilometres. Its epicentre was located approximately 104 kilometres west-northwest of Mantua, Cuba, placing it within a relatively unusual seismic zone in the Caribbean.
