Pakistan, Oct. 10 -- MANILA - A magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck offshore in the southern Philippines early Friday, triggering tsunami warnings across the region and prompting residents in coastal areas to flee to higher ground. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the quake struck off the coast of Manay town in Davao Oriental, at a depth of about 20 kilometers (12 miles). The initially recorded the tremor at 7.6 magnitude before revising it down slightly to 7.5.
