Montreal, June 23 -- Two people, including a police officer, were killed in a shooting incident in Montreal on Monday, while the suspected gunman was also shot dead, authorities confirmed.
The shooting occurred in the Cote-des-Neiges neighborhood, an area known for its kosher restaurants, supermarkets and a large Jewish community. The incident prompted a major police response, with officers securing the area and urging residents to stay away from the scene.
Montreal police said one of their officers was killed while responding to the situation. The officer was later identified as 34-year-old Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, who had served with the Montreal Police Service since 2021.
