ISLAMABAD, Aug. 10 -- Official documents have revealed that petrol is being sold nearly Rs140 per litre above its basic cost in Pakistan.

According to the documents, the basic cost of one litre of petrol stands at Rs197.69. However, the government has fixed its retail price at Rs327.62 per litre.

The difference includes petroleum levies, climate support levy, customs duty, freight equalisation margin and other industry margins. These additional charges significantly increase the amount paid by consumers.
