WASHINGTON, June 17 -- The United States has decided to rename the US Indo Pacific Command back to the US Pacific Command, reversing a change introduced in 2018 while maintaining the command's existing responsibilities and mission.

The announcement was made by the US Department of Defense on Tuesday, which said the change would restore the command's historic title without altering its operational role across the region.

According to the Pentagon, the command's area of responsibility will remain unchanged, covering a vast region stretching from the western part of India across the Pacific Ocean to the western coastline of the United States.
