Pakistan, June 28 -- The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has suspended the licence of Geo News for 15 days and ordered the channel to stop transmission over content aired in its programme Safar-e-Ishq on the 10th of Muharram. The regulator said the broadcast included religious depictions that it considered unacceptable under the country's religious, social and cultural values.

According to PEMRA, the programme contained imagery that did not comply with the applicable broadcasting standards and regulations. Furthermore, the authority said its Complaints Council would conduct detailed hearings to examine the matter before deciding whether any additional regulatory action should be taken against the broadcaster.
