Pakistan, Aug. 28 -- A peace committee member was killed and eight others injured in an IED blast in Upper South Waziristan. The explosion struck Makeen Bazaar on Friday morning, raising fresh security concerns in the district.

Regional Police Officer Ghulam Mubashir Makin said unidentified people attached the explosive to a motorcycle. The device exploded around 10:45am inside the busy market. Police said the blast initially injured nine people.

Three peace committee members, including Inayatullah, Sharat Khan and Bangi Khan, suffered injuries. Rescue teams shifted the injured members to Razmak Hospital for treatment. Other victims received medical care at a nearby health facility.
