Pakistan, July 27 -- Pakistan told the global Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) that polio eradication is within reach despite ongoing security challenges. Officials said the virus has been reduced to limited high-risk areas. However, insecurity in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains the biggest obstacle.

During an IMB review meeting in Geneva, Pakistani officials presented progress in the decades-long polio campaign. The board assessed global eradication efforts, with focus on Pakistan and Afghanistan, the only two countries where wild poliovirus remains endemic.
