UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 27 -- Pakistan has questioned the effectiveness of the Gaza ceasefire as Israeli strikes and Palestinian deaths continue. Pakistan raised the issue during a United Nations Security Council meeting on Wednesday. Pakistan's permanent representative, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, asked how the ceasefire could hold amid continued attacks. He said more than 1,200 Palestinians had died since the truce was announced. Meanwhile, UN officials reported continued violence in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
