Pakistan, Sept. 6 -- Pakistan strongly condemned the demolition of a century-old mosque in Uttar Pradesh, India, calling the action reprehensible. The Foreign Office said the incident targeted an important Islamic place of worship and heritage.

Foreign Office spokesperson Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan said the demolition reflected what Pakistan described as a wider campaign against Islamic heritage. He linked the action to what he called an Islamophobic and Hindutva-driven campaign.

Uttar Pradesh authorities demolished the mosque during an early-morning operation on September 5. Indian media reported that heavy police deployment was present during the demolition.
