Pakistan, Sept. 7 -- North Korea and Russia have inaugurated their first bridge linking the two countries by land. The new crossing spans the Tumen River and marks a major bilateral development.

Russia's state-run TASS news reported that both countries view the bridge as an important milestone. Officials said the project reflects their growing strategic partnership.

The new bridge stands near the existing Friendship Bridge, which carries railway traffic between the two countries. The railway bridge became operational in 1959, following the Korean War.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said the new crossing could boost cooperation across several sectors. He said it could support tourism and create new employment opportunities.
