The National Judicial Policy-Making Committee (NJPMC) on Monday approved uniform timelines for disposing of civil and criminal cases, aiming to ensure speedy justice and reduce long-standing case backlogs.

The 54th NJPMC meeting, chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi at the Supreme Court, included chief justices of all high courts. Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan attended on special invitation.

Under the new regime, declaratory suits relating to land disputes must be decided within 24 months, inheritance cases in 12 months, and injunction suits on land disputes within six months to ensure efficiency.
