Pakistan, July 30 -- A court in Myanmar has sentenced nine pro-democracy activists to lengthy prison terms, including jail sentences of up to 37 years, over their involvement in a protest calling for a boycott of the country's December 2025 election.

According to the Anti-Junta Forces Coordination Committee-Mandalay, eight activists, including prominent campaigner Htet Myat Aung, were each sentenced to 37 years in prison by two courts in Mandalay. They were convicted under Myanmar's electoral and counterterrorism laws.

A ninth activist received a 27-year prison sentence after being found guilty under the counterterrorism law.
