Pakistan, Aug. 23 -- Moderate earthquake shook eastern Japan early Sunday, injuring at least 37 people across five prefectures, while authorities reported no tsunami threat. The tremor affected Tokyo and surrounding areas, catching many residents off guard while they were asleep.

The Japan Meteorological recorded the earthquake at a preliminary magnitude of 5.9, with its epicenter in southern Ibaraki prefecture. The quake struck at a depth of about 70 kilometers, while the US Geological Survey measured its magnitude at 5.8.
