Pakistan, Sept. 12 -- Punjab Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has defended Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz amid criticism of her recent remarks. She accused opponents of targeting Maryam over her performance and growing popularity.

In a statement on X, Aurangzeb said the controversy was not about Maryam's plane or statement. She said the real issue was Maryam's performance and increasing popularity. Aurangzeb also said Maryam would personally pay for her upcoming London visit.

Aurangzeb criticised those using Maryam's remarks to create hatred between provinces. She said such statements could deepen divisions among the people. The Punjab minister called on those responsible to apologise to the public.
