Pakistan, Sept. 9 -- Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said a joint defence pact could become operational. He said this could happen if Yemen's conflict spills into Saudi Arabia.

Asif discussed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement during a television interview. The agreement links Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye in a collective defence arrangement. Under the pact, aggression against one member would affect all three.

The minister said the agreement would apply in case of unprovoked aggression. He also cited a possible spillover of the Yemen conflict into Saudi territory. Asif stressed that Pakistan remained committed to its obligations under the agreement.
