Pakistan, Sept. 29 -- Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, wife of former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, died on Monday at age 100. She passed away at Malaysia's National Heart Institute, according to her son and Bernama.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed condolences to the family and directed officials to arrange a state funeral. He said Malaysia would remember Siti Hasmah for her contributions and public service.

Siti Hasmah was among Malaysia's pioneering Malay women doctors. She worked extensively on maternal and child health, immunisation and rural women's development. She also supported campaigns against drug abuse and promoted adult literacy.
