Pakistan, Aug. 28 -- King Harald V of Norway has died at the age of 89 after more than three decades on the throne. The Royal Palace said he passed away peacefully at Oslo University Hospital on Friday morning. Harald had been admitted to hospital on August 17 after developing a bacterial infection in his blood. He was Europe's oldest living monarch at the time of his passing.
Harald became Norway's ceremonial head of state in 1991 and gradually introduced a more modern approach to the monarchy. He remained popular among Norwegians and became known for supporting openness and tolerance.
