Pakistan, June 26 -- Karachi - Japanese industrial giant Komatsu is set to invest $100 million in a major maintenance and service facility in Karachi by the end of 2025. The new hub, named Komatsu Pakistan Mining, will focus on the inspection and repair of heavy mining machinery and is expected to employ around 500 engineers and operators over time, according to a report by Nikkei Asia.
This investment follows Komatsu's recent $440 million contract with Canada's Barrick Gold to supply equipment for the Reko Diq gold and copper mining project in Balochistan, one of the world's largest undeveloped mineral sites. The contract covers equipment supply over the next five years, starting from fiscal year 2026.
