Pakistan, Aug. 28 -- Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has announced a nationwide strike against the petroleum levy. The strike will take place on September 3. Meanwhile, protests against the levy and inflation entered their 13th day on Friday. Demonstrations continued in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar. The party says the protests aim to demand relief for citizens.
Speaking at a sit-in outside the Punjab chief minister's house in Lahore, Rehman announced the expanded protest campaign. He said demonstrations are now taking place in several cities.
