SANAA - Israel launched a series of heavy air strikes on the Yemeni capital late Thursday, targeting what it claimed were Houthi military and intelligence sites, according to Al Masirah TV and an Israeli army spokesperson.

The Israeli military said "dozens of warplanes" hit Houthi command and security compounds in Sanaa in response to recent drone and missile attacks on Israel, including a strike on a hotel in Eilat on Wednesday.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said the raids killed "dozens of Houthi operatives," though Houthi media reported two dead and 48 wounded. Residents told Reuters the strikes shook the city's south and west, sending plumes of smoke into the sky.
