Pakistan, April 26 -- The Power Division on Saturday said that hydropower generation increased to 6,000 megawatts during peak hours last night, helping limit load management despite a surge in electricity demand.

According to a spokesperson, increased water releases from Tarbela Dam during nighttime contributed to higher hydel generation.

He said the total installed hydropower capacity stood at around 11,500 megawatts, adding that improved generation also enhanced stability of the national grid.

The spokesperson said that around 500 megawatts of electricity from the southern region was transmitted to the central grid, including an additional 100 megawatts facilitated by improved hydel output.
