Pakistan, Oct. 22 -- A dense layer of toxic smog covered New Delhi on Tuesday, the morning after millions celebrated Diwali with fireworks that sent air pollution levels soaring across the Indian capital. Revelers lit firecrackers late into the night, releasing harmful smoke and fine particles that combined with existing pollutants and cold weather conditions. As a result, the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed 350 in multiple areas - a level considered "severe" and extremely hazardous to breathe. Visibility dropped sharply as the thick gray haze engulfed roads, monuments, and residential towers.
