Pakistan, Aug. 14 -- At least five people died in eastern Japan after unprecedented heavy rain disrupted transport and stranded thousands. Authorities reported flooding, power outages and widespread travel disruptions across Chiba prefecture.

The torrential rain struck late Thursday, triggering landslide warnings and extensive flooding. Japan's weather authorities issued their highest-level heavy rain warning for Chiba for the first time.
