Pakistan, July 25 -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in Damascus on Saturday during the first visit by a serving UN chief to Syria in 17 years. He pledged international support for the country's reconstruction after years of conflict.

Speaking after the meeting, Guterres said no country could rebuild alone after a devastating war. He stressed that the United Nations would support Syria's efforts to recover and rebuild its institutions and infrastructure.
