Pakistan, July 17 -- The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly has passed a resolution calling for Gilgit-Baltistan Interim Province status within Pakistan. The resolution states that granting interim provincial status should not affect Pakistan's long-standing position on the Kashmir dispute or any future UN-mandated plebiscite.

The resolution proposes that Gilgit-Baltistan be given representation in Pakistan's National Assembly, Senate, and all constitutional institutions. It aims to provide the region's residents with constitutional and democratic rights equal to those enjoyed by citizens of the country's other provinces.
