German Finance Minister and Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil visited Kyiv on Monday, assuring Ukraine that Germany's support will remain strong despite Russia's ongoing aggression. His visit was unannounced.
Klingbeil, leader of Germany's Social Democratic Party, said Russian President Vladimir Putin should have no illusions that Germany's backing of Ukraine could weaken. He emphasized that Germany remains Europe's largest supporter of Kyiv.
He added that Germany continues to be Ukraine's second-largest supporter worldwide and stressed that the country can rely on German assistance for financial, humanitarian, and military aid during the conflict.
