Pakistan, Aug. 17 -- Federal government debt increased by Rs18.832 trillion over 28 months, reaching Rs83.642 trillion by June 2026. The State Bank of Pakistan reported the figures.

According to SBP documents, domestic debt rose by Rs16.766 trillion between March 2024 and June 2026. External debt increased by Rs2.066 trillion during the period.

The figures show federal government debt increased by more than Rs22.4 billion daily on average. Total debt stood at Rs64.810 trillion in February 2024.

The government's domestic debt increased from Rs42.675 trillion in February 2024 to Rs59.441 trillion by June 2026. Domestic borrowing accounted for most of the overall increase. ...
